A Meditation Room
Leland Bull was a man with a list of notable accomplishments including managing the Pennsylvania Agricultural Department as Secretary under three different Governors. After his stint in government, he played a major role in the Penn State University College of Agriculture where he stayed until his retirement in 1976 as a professor emeritus.
Leland and his wife Helen came to Westminster Woods in 1996 and immediately embraced this close-knit community. His active involvement with “The Woods” continued until his passing in 2004. Over time Helen sought a way to honor the memory of this man who had been not only the love of her life, but also an inspiration, innovator, leader and friend to many. That way came to her during an auxiliary meeting where, according to Helen, God spoke to her heart about providing a place for prayer and respite – a meditation room within the Commons Building at Westminster Woods.
With the help of Debbie Barefoot, the Executive Director, and some Westminster residents, Helen found usable space and began the process of designing this special room. She personally financed the initial improvements, but as word of her quest spread throughout the campus and into the Huntingdon community, more people donated to this admirable cause in memory of this worthy individual.
Today many who did not know Leland Bull are finding peace and presence through this inspiring gift, given in love and admiration for a man touched by God to serve others and who did so with integrity and intellect.
